Bukakata → Bugala
The government ferry
The classic approach. The MV Kalangala leaves Bukakata daily at 2pm and arrives at Luuku Port on Bugala Island about 2.5 hours later. It's free for foot passengers.

Three ways to reach the archipelago — each with its own rhythm and reward.
The Ssese Islands sit roughly 50km off the northern shore of Lake Victoria. There are no bridges, no airstrips — reaching them means getting on the water, which is half the point. The crossing gives you time to shift gears before you arrive.
Three routes
Bukakata → Bugala
The classic approach. The MV Kalangala leaves Bukakata daily at 2pm and arrives at Luuku Port on Bugala Island about 2.5 hours later. It's free for foot passengers.
Entebbe → Kalangala
A quicker, more scenic route. Private speedboats leave from Nakiwogo Pier in Entebbe and reach Bugala in about 90 minutes. Book through your lodge in advance.
Island to island
Once on Bugala, traditional wooden boats and motorised skiffs connect to the smaller islands — Luku, Banda, Bubeke, and beyond. Hire in Kalangala town.
